Lasagna in Italy

Lasagna : Originated in Italy, this delicious dish is popular all over the world, be it vegetarian or non vegetarian. The plural of 'Lasagna' (pronounced as 'La'zanna') is 'Lasagne', (pronounced as 'La'zanne').  It is made of layers of wide/ flat pasta, having plain or wavy edges with a wide variety of delicious fillings and toppings of alternative layers of cheese, sauce, meat or vegetable.
According to one theory, the word 'lasagna' was derived from the Greek word for chamber pot 'lasanon' where the dish is cooked. The main theory is that, 'lasagna' comes from the Greek word 'laganon', a flat sheet of pasta dough cut into strips.

Cheese has got a particular importance while cooking lasagna, although any type of cheese can be selected according to personal taste, the traditional cheese is 'ricotta' and 'parmigiana'. It's quite simple to make this dish, if you follow the recipe carefully from various cook books. The meat sauce is cooked, pasta is boiled separately, then on a baking dish pasta, meat sauce and cheese is arranged in layers and baked. It is then cut into big pieces and served with salad and garlic bread, for wine, I would suggest Chianti which is traditionally served with pasta in Italy.
