Bread Chop

Bread Chop is a very easy to make tasty tea time savoury. I often make this when a guest drops by uninformed and there is no ready snacks at home. This particular filling too can be made with very little time. If you have a micro wave oven, cook the potato in it to save more time.
Ingredients : For the cover :
                             6   slices of bread. (1 slice = 1 chop)
                             1 egg
                             1 cup bread crumbs
                             1/2 tsp salt
                             1 glass water

                             For frying :
                             100 ml refine oil

                             For filling : Potato filling
(Any filling of your choice can be used. My family's choice is Chicken
                             minced)
                             3 medium potatoes
                             2 eggs. beaten well
                             1/2 tsp mustard seed
                             2 onions, chopped
                             1 tsp chopped ginger
                             3 tbsp refine oil
                             salt to taste
a few curry leaves (Murraya koenigii)
                             1 tomato, skinned and chopped
                             1 green chilly chopped
a bunch of fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Method : Filling : Steam the potatoes. Peel and mash with salt. Heat oil and splutter the mustard seed. Put in curry leaves, onion, ginger, chilly and tomato. Saute for a while, add the mashed potato and stir well. Fry till done, add coriander leaves and beaten eggs, mix well. Filling is ready, keep aside.
I make all sorts of fillings. Left over vegetables or meat make good filling too. A mixed vegetable filling is good for the vegetarians.

In a bowl take water. Soak a slice of bread for just a minute in the water, squeeze water out. place 2 table spoon of the filling on the slice and fold it. Now using both your palms press and shape the bread chop.   Make all the chops this way.
Beat egg and salt. Dip  chops and roll on bread crumbs. Heat oil, deep fry the chops till golden brown.
Your easy to make tea time Bread Chops are ready.

Serve with a green chutney and a piping hot cup of Assam tea.

You may shallow fry it to avoid consuming too much oil.
